Gallipoli The First Day - Heurist Network

Gallipoli The First Day

Site Overview

Gallipoli is an interactive ABC 3D documentary website that provides an immersive experience of the WW1 ANZAC landing at Gallipoli, 25 April 1915, and how this event relates to the broader context of the ensuing eight-mont Gallipoli Campaign. Use a timeline to explore a 3D Map of the Gallipoli peninsula, or play the story of the day in chapters.

Winner of the inaugural AFI Award for Innovation in Screen Content 2009, it was produced in collaboration between the University’s Archaeological Computing Laboratory (ACL) and the ABC’s Digital Innovation Unit and launched to coincide with ANZAC Day in April 2009.

Heurist’s Role

Heurist played a crucial role in the provision of a database approach to modelling historical data,

Heurist provides the back-end for the Gallipoli The First Day site. Events are stored in Heurist and generated as XML for input to the 3D visualisation. It also supplied Geographic Information Systems (GIS) data for the site, by building upon a 3D digital terrain model of Gallipoli that was supplied by the University’s School of Geosciences.
